Current sophomore and FFA member Sloane McIntire is making the most of every opportunity in FFA at Skiatook High School. McIntire first got involved in FFA last year when she was a freshman.
“I first got involved in FFA last year after hearing about the program from friends. When they had first mentioned it my 8th grade year, I was considering it but it wasn’t until my freshman year I joined,” said McIntire. “Some of the people who got me involved and really pushed for me to join were my friends, they helped me along the whole way, and one of the biggest reasons I do all that I do is because of my friend Kate, on one of my first days in FFA she came to me and said, “Do everything you can so you don’t miss any opportunities.” Ever since then I’ve done just that.”
For McIntire, FFA offers many activities she enjoys from showing livestock to serving as the chapter reporter.
“There are so many things I enjoy about the program from speech contests to livestock evaluation, but the biggest one to me is the people, the joy it brings me when meeting new people and hearing their stories and experiences and relating to one another through them is something I have loved so much about it,” said McIntire. “In my Chapter I am currently serving as the Reporter, I have participated in public speaking, Livestock Evaluation, Land Evaluation, Green Hand Quiz, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and so much more.”
McIntire also serves as the social media officer for the Class of 2026, she is a member of the student council, and the junior chamber. McIntire said anyone interested in activities at school, should give it a try. Especially FFA.
“To anyone who is interested in joining FFA, just do it! The people you will meet, and memories you will make are so worth it,” said McIntire. “The people who have encouraged me through it all are my parents, my AG teachers, and friends, without them I wouldn’t be where I am now, and I know I couldn’t do it without their support and encouragement through it all I’m so thankful for all they do and have done for me.”
Her plans for the future include graduating from SHS and attending college at Oklahoma State University where she will major in Ag Education.
